About
Barrier is a sound installation that explores the emotional landscape of language barriers. It is based on interviews with individuals who have faced the challenges of moving abroad. In this experience, the audience is enveloped in complete darkness, heightening their sense of hearing. As voices recite poems in languages both familiar and unfamiliar to the listeners, the soundscape reflects the fragmented and incomplete understanding that many immigrants encounter in new environments. The darkness symbolizes the disorientation of navigating a world where meaning is lost or transformed, while the auditory experience creates an abstract emotional narrative that connects cultures and experiences. Throughout the installation, moments of clarity, confusion, and harmony reflect how language barriers both separate and unite us, inviting the audience to reflect on their relationship with communication and understanding across cultural boundaries.
